Happy Friday, Team!
As we close out another week, I hope you have stayed upbeat as you went about serving. I enjoyed spending time with other Lutheran Social Service CEOs from around the country over the last week. It was our first time being together in person since I started with LSSSC in 2020. It was good seeing so many of the people I have worked with via Zoom in person. We had great conversations, shared stories about the victories and challenges in our respective organizations, and agreed that being able to interact with each other physically was indeed something we were fortunate to do.
Reflecting on this past week and the interchanges between the various CEOs got me thinking about the word “relationship.” As I reflected on that word, the phrase, “God wants us in relationship with Him,” held my attention. Yes, he created us to be in a relationship with Him, but He also made us to be in a relationship with each other. The phrase, “No man is an island,” has been tossed around for years, and although I felt I knew what it meant, I looked at various definitions and explanations of that phrase. The one that epitomizes the truth for me is this: “… no one is truly self-sufficient; everyone must rely on the company and comfort of others to thrive.” We can all agree that we found this true as we isolated ourselves during the height of the COVID pandemic.
I will be the first to admit that I embrace being alone and having quiet time. However, I also understand the need to be a part of a community. The United States is considered an individualistic society. We strive to make it on our own and take care of ourselves. However, many in our society are lonely. Unfortunately, we have been so conditioned in our culture that we may believe we are better off by ourselves; we don’t need others. Let us not fool ourselves because scripture tells us differently. Genesis 2:18 reminds us of this truth, “He said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
God created us to need each other; to be in a community. That’s what we strive for at LSSSC. We will always seek to build a Healing organization for those we serve both in and outside our organization. I am happy that I can count on you to join across LSSSC to do just that. Thank you.
God bless you this Friday!
