Embrace, Equip, Empower

For as many individuals and families who are living in poverty in Southern California, there are just as many stories for how they ended up there. From those who have grown up in and lived in these circumstances all their lives, to the family who just last month was able to donate food, but unstable economic times have left them standing in line to now receive food, each and every situation deserves a helping hand.

Similarly, needs are great and diverse, and there is far more to the solution than a one-size-fits-all approach to lifting yourself out of the grip of poverty.  While some may just need a few meals as they get back on their feet, there are others who benefit from temporary housing, specialized programs, or even mentors. Whatever the need may be, we are committed to embracing, equipping and empowering those in need.

We embrace people at times of crisis and acute need through a number of Emergency Services, providing 250,000 individuals and families with basic needs like food, hot meals, clothing, housing, and transportation, just to name a few.

In order to equip, we have over 50 specialized programs in place throughout our eight Southern California regions. These programs offer training that provide the tools and resources needed to move individuals and families toward independence.

Finally, empowering people to ultimately break the cycle of property is at the core of what we do. By partnering with Circles, a proven model to permanently move individuals out of poverty, we are able to bring this powerful agent for change to Southern California. This model involves surrounding families with the support they need to move out of poverty, and also initiating changes in the community that result in eliminating barriers to economic stability.

Broadening our reach starts with you. Whether something here struck a chord for you to want to volunteer with one of our programs or services, or to donate financially so we can continue touching lives, we need you. Maybe you know someone who could benefit from these services. Please reach out to let them know we are here to help. We have multiple locations to serve people across Southern California. And don’t forget to check back often to read stories of transformation, learn more about what goes on at our different locations, and to discover more about what we do each and every day!

Ambassadors are short-term volunteers who open doors for our organization in the community, introducing new people at our bi-monthly Fostering Community Care event. These are one hour awareness events only (no solicitations are made) to expose people to the great work of LSS Community Care. To become an Ambassador here are your responsibilities:
  1. 1 – Attend at least one Fostering Community Care event during the calendar year
  2. 2 – Host or invite and bring 10-15 guests to one Fostering Community Care event within 3 months of your attending one yourself.
  3. 3 – Inform your invited guests of what the Fostering Community Care meeting will be about, and let them know that they will receive a follow up call from the organization
  4. 4 – Ambassadors will complete their commitment after bringing 10-15 persons within the 3 month time period. An Ambassador has the option to complete after one term, continue for another 3 month term or move into another role on the team.
