Happy Friday, Team!
I am sending you greetings from Puerto Vallarta this Friday morning. I am in a resort with girlfriends enjoying a couple of days doing nothing. I want to sit back, laugh, eat, and take quiet walks on the beach. Don’t we all need to step back and have days like these?
I imagine you are looking forward to this weekend also. If your week has been anything like mine, it was busy. I am sure some days were filled with helping clients navigate life while concurrently navigating your own. As much work as we do to try and meet everybody’s needs, we must not forget the necessity to take care of ourselves. You cannot pour into others if you have drained yourself.
Do you know how important it is for all of us to pull away, rest, and re-energize? Jesus is an example of one who took various sabbaticals to do just that. He re-energized himself by going alone to pray. Jesus also spent time with close friends.
I know many of us do not feel we can afford to take time away from our responsibilities. I understand that. Jesus was the same. However, one thing we can learn from His example is to maintain a rhythm amid our busy lives.
Jesus, of course, recognized the weekly Sabbath, but He also did other things. For example, he took time off after a victory(Matt.14:22-23); before He made significant decisions (Lk. 6:12-13); and even took time off when He’d had enough of people(Mk. 7:24).
I guess I will say if time off was good enough for Jesus, let it be for you also. When you get to take some time, do so. Enjoy and return refreshed and rejuvenated, ready to continue doing God’s work.
Have a wonderful weekend!
